I am so grateful for the sunny weather because it has allowed the work crews to get a lot done on the building. The crew installing the rebar was on site this week, building the steel reinforcements to hold up the concrete suspended slab. Over 20 tons of steel is used to reinforce the suspended slab alone!  As you can see from the following photo there is a complex system of tubes and wires that must be put in place before the concrete is poured.

The crew began pouring the concrete later on in the week. It was quite a sight to behold. Twenty-five concrete trucks each containing 10 cubic metres of concrete were needed to fill the remaining portion of the suspended slab. The crew members needed to work fast because the concrete cannot sit for more than an hour before it begins curing. The following pictures show the crew pouring the concrete.

Be sure to check back next week for more updates and pictures.

It has been a productive week on the building site.  As you can see from the photo the suspended slab for the parkade roof has now been poured and the concrete has been left to cure. When the concrete reaches its necessary strength the crews will be able to move the trusses and began the forming on other areas of the building.

Please continue to pray with us for good weather and for safety for all the work crews. We appreciate all of your prayers!

It has been a busy few weeks on the building site and we are excited by all the progress that has being made. Last week the crew erected the scaffolding that will hold up the suspended slab.  As you can see in the photos they need a lot of scaffolding to hold up the forms and eventually the concrete.  Look at how much iron is used to reinforce the slab which will be over 12 inches thick.

We also took a photo of the hydraulic elevator shaft which goes 30 feet into the ground.

The concrete is due to be poured sometime next week so be sure to check back to see some more pictures!

Hi, my name is Mark and I have been a member of the Focus staff for nearly seven years. As most of you know, in December 2009 Focus on the Family Canada begun construction on our very own building!!  This is an exciting time for all of us at Focus on the Family and I want to give you regular updates so that you too can enjoy God’s Blessing!

But first let me tell you a little about myself. I was born in Northampton England but moved to Canada in 1994. A year later I married my beautiful wife Lanette and we are the proud parents of 4 wonderful and often rambunctious kids. Having spent most of my career in the construction industry I have taken a personal interest in monitoring the progress of the building. I am excited to share with you my stories and pictures.

My first update is on Monday so be sure to check back!

Some time has passed since our last blog, and we have been making lots of progress! The walls for the parkade level are nearly complete and the workers are currently preparing the drain field and concrete parkade floor. It is such an encouragement to see this project come together and it is only possible through your support and prayers. Please continue to pray with us for safety for all the work crews and that we can be debt free by the time we move in at the end of 2010.

Friday, March 12, 2010 - 4:48pm

We are happy to report that the excavation of the site is now complete and that there were no unexpected surprises during this phase of the building process. It has been exciting to see all the progress that has been made over the last few weeks! The form work for the walls of the parkade level has been prepared and recently, we began pouring the concrete. As we begin to lay the foundation, we can’t help but give thanks to God for His faithfulness.  Please check back soon for more updates.

We are excited to announce that dirt is moving at the site for the new office building for Focus Canada.  250 loads of dirt were removed from the site last week and another 500 track loads are to go this week, with concrete form work scheduled to begin next week.  After months of planning and organizing, it’s encouraging to visually see the work begin.  Thank you for being a part of this journey.  It’s only just begun!  Please continue to visit the website and keep in touch.

Over $500,00 raised!  We have recently hit the halfway mark to meeting our one million dollar goal.  We can’t thank you enough for your participation in this renewed vision and for partnering with us.  We are encouraged as we think ahead to the ministry that will take place at the new building, and all the Canadian families that will be helped and given hope.

As we start to look towards the new year, we pray for the second half of the matching grant to be met, which will bring us closer to moving into the building debt free come September.

Tuesday, December 8, 2009 - 3:19pm

On Friday, December 4 we held a ground breaking ceremony for the new building for Focus Canada.  It was truly a day of celebration!  Board members, contractors, staff and spouses gathered to recall the amazing journey God has led us on. The day was marked with clear skies and beautiful views of the mountains – God’s promises all around us.

As we all said a prayer of thanksgiving together, the site and building were dedicated to God. Ground was broken and thoughts were shared from various staff and board members. We are so thankful for all that the Lord has blessed us with!  And we are thankful for you as well, for partnering with us.

Please check back soon for pictures of the ceremony.
